Thursday Thirteen #6

Thirteen Movies I Can’t Watch While Writing
These movies have been banned from the DVD player while I’m trying to write:

    1. The Godfather: I just can’t. Too hard not to watch this one.

    2. The Ref: I love this movie. I love Denis Leary, too. Nothing but gawking and giggling will get done.

    3. Catch Me If You Can: All writing will cease because I can’t not watch this film.

    4. Casino Royale: If you’ve seen it, this won’t require explanation.

    5. Willow: It’s the brownies’ fault.

    6. The Thomas Crowne Affair: Please. Like you can write when this is on.

    7. StarWars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith: Too busy yelling at Anakin.

    8. Die Hard: Hans! Bubbie! Shut up so I can concentrate.

    9. A Fish Called Wanda: Kevin Kline makes me hysterical. And don’t even get me started on John Cleese.

    10. Pirates of the Caribbean: Nope. No writing will happen.

    11. Analyze This: Fahgeddabahdid.

    12. Legends of the Fall: Das husband knows this is the quickest way to pry me off the puter. I will either leave the house if it’s on, or bawl uncontrollably for 2.5 hours.

    13. The Ring: How can I type while constantly turning around to check for Samara?

  1. Extrapolating, I’m assuming this means you can write when other movies are on? I’m impressed. I’m way too easily distracted.

  2. I can, but only certain ones. Normally I need total silence to write but with everything that goes on here in a day, sometimes a little white noise (aka the movies I’ve seen 5k times) helps.

  3. A lot of good movies.. I wouldn’t be able to work either.

  4. I can’t write a word when there’s a movie on. Way too distracting! Music is good if it matches the mood of my story though.

  5. I am so with you on Legends Of The Fall. I cry like a baby everytime I watch that one. The SO thinks I’m insane, but it’s so sad.

  6. I’m the same way with a lot of movies, especially WILLOW.

  7. Ah, Catch Me if You Can is awesome. Love it. So good to see it nominated…I mean, noticed.

  8. Lately, everything distracts me. I need total silence. But I’m with you on some of those. Why waste the electricity if it’s on….watch it!

  9. If somebody would watch Lord of the Ring or Starwars I would escape with my book under my arm and disappear somewhere to read ! I don’t like this kind of movies at all !

  10. Well, you’re better than me. I can’t watch TV at all. I’d never get any writing done. But I have to agree with Gattina above. I don’t do those movies either 😦

  11. Oh, some great movies there. I like to watch Chronicles of Riddick, The Pretender, and Supernatural when I’m writing. Strange, I know, but it works for me lol. I’ve never thought about what I can’t watch when I’m writing though. Hmm, off to ponder…

  12. What a great list! I’m easy, the minute my attention is caught they have me instead of the writing…usually why I stick with news or something like that.

PS I think I chose this weeks TT fashion lean because I miss the “drama” 🙂

  13. I can’t write if ANY movie is on 🙂
Legends of the Fall is one of my all-time faves. Ahhh… Tristan! And I LOVE the new Bond.

  14. It’s hard for me to concentrate on writing if I have the tv on in the background, but there are some great ones listed here. I thought the ref was pretty funny too – and anything with Vin Diesel keeps me captivated!

  15. Casino Royale: DANG, he was HOT in that movie!!! PHEW!

Pirates: Love, adore, can watch over and over these movies!

Die Hard’s a good one too, but I prefer Alan Rickman with his english accent (and lovely long black flowing robe yeah, baby! 😉

  16. :type: Great list! Learning how to write through distractions has been one of my most important accomplishments, but there are still movies that wreck the concentration. Really, anything with Cap’t Jack comes to mind…

  17. I can’t write when I watch a movie – but I can write when I watch TV – if needed. Mostly, I prefer quiet or music in the background. Thanks for visiting my TT. Have a great week!

  18. Loved #13…..still laughing:)

  19. Your #13 cracked me up, too! I can’t write much if a good movie is on, but if the movie’s boring I can tune it out and write ’til the cows come home. 😀

Happy TT, and thanks for visiting my blog!

  20. I write in complete silence.

But why did you have to bring up Thomas Crowne Affair? Now I’m visualizing…..damn.

  21. I need quiet to write. I certainly couldn’t watch a movie. I can’t even have any music on…too distracting.

  22. I’m like N.J. I need quiet when I write. The TV can be on in the other room, but if I can hear individual words, I’ll usually boot up some new age space music on my computer to counter it. LOL

  23. I would love to be able to watch a movie while I write. If I even hear it in the background I want to watch it. But I agree with Casino Royal. That man is HOT!

  24. Great movies. I haven’t seen them all, but have seen some.

Thanks for dropping by my TT. Oh, and The Skyliners sing the version of “Since I Don’t Have You” that I’m most familiar with, but it has been done many times since they sang it.

  25. The Thomas Crowne Affair! Dear hubby found it in the discount bin at some store.

    Oh, that stair scene….

  26. Great list of movies! I wouldn’t be able to concentrate either! I need perfect silence to write, and if I can’t have that then you might as well turn one of the movies on because nothing will get done anyways! :yield:

    Happy TT!

  27. Great list. I couldn’t work through most of those either.

  28. Some awesome movies here! I still need to see Casino Royale. I’m such a big Sean Connery fan, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to do the new guy justice.

  29. Oh, I totally agree with you Emma…however, you forgot one MAJOR movie…who could possibly write through Lord of the Rings???

Actually, I CANNOT write when the TV is on…just one of my qurks.

Great list! And love your blog by the way!

  30. :binky: You just had to go there with 13 didn’t you? You suck, you know that?

:tpoccy: to Samara and YOU. LOL

  31. I love to watch movies and write at the same time. My no-no movie? P&P–I love Mr. Darcy!

  32. OMG, A Fish Called Wanda is one of my all-time fav movies…Kevin Kline is a genius in it!!!

  33. Aaaaaaaaaahahahahah Heather. I’ve been waiting to get bonked for that all day. I so knew it was coming. Remember that night when I was trying to convince you Samara was crawling up through your toilet?

Dang you guys… You’re being too entertaining today, so I’ve been neglecting my own blog. Lemme go backwards super fast cuz I need to get to the actual writing portion of my day:

Ingela–Actually, LOTR trilogy I’ve now seen so many dang times I can work straight through them without once stopping to ogle anyone. Plus I beta-tested a certain game I won’t speak of, which rather took the Lore-Nazi thing off the charts. (don’t ask)

Ah, Joely, you’re hearing this from the converted. I was livid at the idea of a blonde Bond but… just watch it. It’s different, but you won’t be disappointed.

Rene, you know I think DH buys them so I can’t work, mean little bugger that he is.

Victoria, NJ, Bianca–stinks needing silence, doesn’t it? I have the worst time trying to concentrate around here. I developed the ability to work with movies on out of sheer self-defense, I swear.

Margo–lol I love that scene. Although one of my favorites is actually at the table when she ad-libbed “You’re not boring, I’ll give you that”

Denise–THANK YOU! That’s been driving me nuts all morning. I have that disk around here someplace. Now I’ll be able to torture the kids again when they get home.

    Christine–Mmmm he is most delicious.

    Jaci– :evillol:

Thomma and Lori–Let’s all go post the single word “Samara” on Heather Rae Scott’s blog. *cackle*

Christine & Nicole–oh man, music can be worse than movies for me. I’m either singing along, or if, God forbid, Robert Johnson or Mozart’s Requiem find their way into the CD player (as they so frequently do), all bets are off over what will happen in the WIP.

Amelia–but why is the concentration gone? Oh. That’s why. ggg

Janet–Alan can do/wear/say anything he wants as long as he promises to do/wear/say it for/to me.

Debora–I keep waiting for my heroes to go off on one of those nasally-snivelling rants. That would be bad.

Wylie–you masochist. That movie makes me howl lol.

Tilly–I’m still annoyed about Geoffrey but I can’t wait until it’s that time again.

Loribelle–I still haven’t seen COR. What’s wrong with me?

Annibelle and Gattina– :pwnjoo: :evillol: Kidding. Big fans in this house. My kids are forever ruining flashlights trying to make sabers.

    Melani– :cheek:

Ciar– :woot: I love that flick. Why does no one ever talk about it? Lots of my June 24th release had its roots there.

Amanda–Wretched, wretched film. I swear I about needed therapy after we saw it in the theater.

Bren W–My kids have been running around for the last week saying “I am not afraid of you!” Dang brownies. But still better than last week’s “The power of Christ compels you!”

  34. As long as I’ve seen it before I can pretty much write while any movie is on. Assuming that I’m not trying to prcrastinate in the first place.

  35. I can use the screen on the laptop to block out the TV, if I really don’t want to be invaded. Or if its really good, I could just put down the computer!
    rashbre

  36. OMG, I’ve only seen two of these movies. I sooooo need to sit down and watch more movies. Its just sad.

  37. OMG this was a great list. I can’t write at all with any television on and my ex used to try and sell me all the time on that thing where you cold have a DVD playing in the bottom corner of the laptop. :tease:

  38. “The Godfather” is a religious ritual in my house. Thalt shalt not write commandeth the husband.

With Casino Royale I turn into a drool puddle, can’t get that much liquid into the keyboard. Daniel Craig is so hot.

  39. I love having the TV on when I’m working, it’s music I can’t listen too. I’ll end up typing lyrics. Though I’m prone to getting distracted lately–usually by my pre-recorded sitcoms. 🙂

  40. Wow. I would never dream of watching a movie while I’m writing. I can’t even listen to music! It’s such of conflict of interest for me.

  41. Your comments on 8 and 11 cracked me up.
I have seen most of the movies on your list but not all.
:tantrum: I have not seen that one so I had to click it…
:s1good: Your emoticon thingies are so cute!
    Terrific Thursday Thirteen!
    Thank you for your visit.
    Have a wonderful day!
    Happy TT’ing!

  42. Totally understand!!! Those Brownies were freaking funny eh?

I lurve Fish Called Wanda, and Fierce Creatures. “How much wood could a wood chuck, chuck, if a wood chuck could chuck wood.”

Great TT. Thanks for dropping by mine!

  43. Was Val Kilmer HOT in Willow, or what???? *drool*

Anyway, did you get the paper towels away from the cat? Had to ask…

Happy TT; thanks for visiting West of Mars. I hope you’ll come back more often!

  44. Johnny Depp – yum….Daniel Craig…moan… i also get all goofy when i see Sean Connery in Medicine Man. I absolutely cannot write with noise, music, talking…anything distracting. Different story painting though. I love to have a movie playing or music while i paint. I just can’t fit the dang tv in the studio with all these gihugant canvases.

  45. Legends of the Fall- Brad Pitt, hot, hot, hot! My husband is so into movies and we watch whatever is on. The Diehards were on forever it just seemed!

Thanks for stopping by my TT13, it’s the motion, not the open ocean that I can’t do!
